Week 3 update

Shot 1

Camera

I worked on changing the camera angle from mounted on the top of the train to an interior shot. This change was to offer a different perspective compared to the rest of the shots and keep the video grounded. I also added camera shakes using a noise function in chop to enhance the believability of the camera motion. The speed of the train was also taken into consideration to convey a "high speed train" while slow enough to showcase the environment.

Environment

I adjusted the environment from week 2 to fit better with the new camera angle by placing the terrains a bit further out and create a heightfield for the foreground. More trees were populated in different distances to help the audience understand depth.

Camera & Layout

I relayout the terrains in this shot using Ethan's Gaea maps and designed a curved train path to create a more dynamic composition.

Foliage Scattering

I worked on blocking out areas with trees and randomizing the foliage scattered in this scene. I also created a procedural material that uses the y position of these maps and add in more green towards the ground of the terrains to help blend the elements. More variations in model and materials will be added in the coming weeks.

Shot 4

I began scattering grasses and trees onto the terrains from last week basing off of references like these.

A lot of variation is needed at the moment.

Shot 5

I redesigned the train path for shot 5 to fit with the curve from Amtrak's logo based on the mentor's suggestion from last week.
